Program Overview

The Garden State Crop Insurance Education Initiative is in the twelfth year of partnership between Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Salem County, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, and the Risk Management Agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. This education program is funded by the Risk Management Agency to inform New Jersey agricultural producers about crop insurance. The New Jersey crop insurance education team exhibits at area trade shows, speaks at producer meetings, conducts farm visits, and pursues various other educational avenues. The New Jersey team consists of the following members:

May 31: Production/acerage reports are due for potatoes
June 10: Final planting date for corn and processing tomatoes
June 15: Acerage reports are due for spring forage seeding
June 20: Final planting date for grain sorghum and soybeans (in Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Warren counties)
June 30: Final planting date for fresh market sweet corn
July 5: Final planting date for soybeans in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean, and Salem counties
July 15: Acerage reports are due for corn and grain sorghum processing tomatoes, sweet corn, and soybeans
July 31: Sales closing for fall forage seeding
August 10: Final planting date for processing beans
August 15: Acerage reports are due for processing beans
August 31: Final planting date for fall forage seeding
