Try a New Idea on Your Farm — with Help from a SARE Grant!
Do you have a question or idea you’d like to test on your farm with the grant funding?
The Northeast SARE Farmer Grant Program offers up to $30,000 to help farmers explore new practices, test ideas, and share what they learn with others.
I’m looking for local farmers interested in working together to co-create simple on-farm research projects. We can shape an idea that fits your farm while also meeting the grant requirements — making it workable for both you and the funding agency.
Some examples of project ideas could include:
- Testing different planting dates or seeding depths
- Comparing fertilizer rates or timing (for example, splitting nitrogen two or three times during the season)
- Trying carbon-based soil amendments to see their effect on crop growth/soil health
- Comparing tillage systems like strip-till vs. no-till
- Evaluating different cover crops or termination timings
The grant can help cover costs such as:
- Farmer labor or stipends for your time
- Supplies and materials (seed, fertilizer, testing kits, sensors, etc.)
- Soil or plant testing
- Equipment rental or consultant fees
- Outreach activities (like field days or printed materials to share results)
If you’ve ever wondered, “What would happen if I tried it this way?” — this is your chance to find out, with funding to help make it possible.
Proposals due: December 9, 2025
Funding available: Up to $30,000 per project
Open to farmers in the Northeast
